Community Involvement

At Wales Investments we believe in promoting financial independence for all segments of the community.  We focus on teaching financial skills that aren't taught in our school system, to help people make better decisions and avoid costly mistakes.  We believe that reaching out to families and individuals in transition will help them build sound financial futures and stronger communities.  Toward that end, our office has pledged to spend at least 30 hours per quarter on pro bono work in the local area.  Current projects include:

Support for military reservists:  We facilitate a program that pairs volunteer Certified Financial Planners with military reservists for free financial planning sessions provided at the reservists' drill site.  The program gives priority consideration to those reservists who are about to be mobilized, or called up for a period of active duty.  This transition is very difficult for reservists and their families, as it often causes a drop in income, changes in health insurance coverage and other issues, in addition to the stress having a family member away from the family and exposed to danger.  We have also opened the program to spouses of reservists who are deployed, so that we can better assist military families during a time of financial challenges.

Assisting survivors of domestic violence:  We are developing a program to work with a local women's shelter in providing financial education to women in transition out of abusive relationships and into independent lives.

Educating at-risk youth:  We are partnering with a local group that provides support services to foster children approaching the age of majority.  Research shows that these children are at high risk for being homeless by their 19th birthdays after completing their first year outside the foster care system.  We focus on providing these teens with basic financial literacy skills to equip them for independence and success as adults.
